The Nature of Man's Journey

Closely Connected to God

However man came into existence, he is of divine origin and was closer to God then than now. As a spirit in a physical body, he was spiritually inclined. He may have been primitive but always worshiped God in his own way, as his soul led him to. He followed the direction of his soul which was the divine connection with his Creator. According to God's plan, he needed to blossom out, and become a competent agent of God. In many cultures there are stories from holy scriptures or religious tales of great Beings who came down on Earth and taught man how to live. We are told of great Avatars, saints, prophets who periodically come on behalf of God to help keep man on the right path. Some religions even speak of Gods who, long ago lived among them and brought them civilization.

 Humanity Acquired a Second Nature

But his struggle to master his surroundings and survive led to the development of a second nature, his outer personality which then cohabited with the inner man. This outer personality is necessary, since through its many experiences, it allows human beings to evolve. However, as humanity evolved physically and intellectually, the outer personality dominated progressively, and now humanity is no longer ruled by the heart, through which the soul expresses itself, but but mostly by the brain and emotions.

Today we can measure how far man has reached in the development of intelligence. His intellectual fertility has enabled him to build a world full of clever devices supposed to make life easier and more enjoyable. Life is far easier than before, its is true, but ‘strangely’ enough, this has not at all helped him to find true happiness and peace. Humanity therefore seems to have now reached the limit of what the outer personality can do for it.

Follow the Heart

That was a necessary stage, but now it is time to go beyond exaggerated materialism and enter the era where the spirit, the true being which has never left God, once more makes its beneficial influence felt on the outer personality it had acquired in adapting to the different aspects of life. The heart is the link between the inner being, represented by the soul, and the outer personality. Through the voice of the conscience, one is guided by the heart to express God’s will. Shri Hans Raj Maharajji Sacha Baba, leading the assistance given to humanity as it prepares to enter the new cycle of higher spiritual consciousness often says, “Every person has a heart, the heart is the seat of love and love is God, so everyone can meet God and manifest the Divinity.”

Harmonize With the New Energies

Humanity is now ripe to go onto the next stage of its upward journey. New cosmic energies are now coming down on the Earth and we must learn to live with them. These are very powerful energies which cannot be stopped. They are of a higher nature than before, and man needs to live through his heart in order to be in harmony with them and benefit from them. The energies before mostly allowed the development of the physical body and the intellect, but the present ones are destined to develop man’s spiritual aspect in particular. Consequently if one continues to live with only the brain and emotions, without developing the spiritual qualities latent in everyone, then sooner or later one will be swept away by the problems created through resistance offered to these energies.

Conscientious, Personal Spiritual Practice is Necessary

Today, it is not enough to be vaguely good or tolerant to others. We still have negative tendencies, dormant or not, from past lives which still influence us, making our spiritual vibrations too low to be in harmony with the new energies. They require a more spiritual attitude, which can only be acquired through conscious effort to reach a higher state of vibration in harmony with them. That is why personal, spiritual practice of one’s own choice needs to be done consciously on a regular basis by humanity – individually. This will allow us to enter an era of more brotherhood and peace.
